Press release guidelines
What we publish
Press releases about health, medicine and the life sciences that are useful to clinicians and researchers: study and trial results, regulatory decisions, products and services for healthcare professionals, partnerships and funding, appointments, and conferences and events.
What we don't publish
- Promotion of stocks, tokens, cryptocurrencies or other investments
- Supplements, devices or treatments presented as cures, or health claims without evidence
- Clinics offering unapproved stem cell or "regenerative" treatments
- Gambling, adult content or political campaigning
- Health misinformation, or attacks on a person or a competitor
- Details that could identify a patient, without the patient's written authorization
- Releases written to look like our own reporting
When a person reviews a release
Most releases are checked and approved automatically within minutes. A person reviews releases that make efficacy or safety claims for a prescription drug or a medical device, report a public company's financial results, compare products with competitors or tell a patient's story, and releases sent from an email address that doesn't match the organization's website. Reviews usually take less than a business day.
Drug and device claims
Claims about a prescription drug or a medical device must match its approved labeling and include fair balance: the important safety information, or a link to it, close to the claims.
Format
- A headline of up to 140 characters, and an optional subheadline
- A dateline (the city) and 150 to 1,000 words of text
- An "About" paragraph on your organization, and a media contact
- Up to 3 links, which search engines are told are sponsored
- One optional image (JPEG, PNG or WebP, at least 600 pixels wide) with a short description, which you confirm you may use
Timing
Choose "as soon as it's approved" or an embargo time at least 30 minutes ahead. We never publish before the time you choose, and we publish at most 5 releases a day.
Labels
Every release is labeled as paid content from your organization and is never presented as our physicians' reporting.
