Policy Rundown: In a policy statement released today, the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) addresses the 2018 schedule of recommended childhood and adolescent immunizations. The 2018 schedule was recently approved by the AAP, the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP), the American Academy of Family Physicians, and the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. The recommended vaccination schedule is revised annually. Although there have been minor wording changes, small clarifications in catch-up guidelines and additional information placed in footnotes, no major changes have been made from the 2017 schedule to the 2018 schedule. Additional information includes a table of vaccine types, abbreviations, and brand names, as well as information about administering live vaccines to HIV-infected children.
